Villagers were shocked after a monkey-like piglet was born in China. Curious locals flocked to the home of owner Feng Changlin after news of the piglet spread in Fengzhang village, Xiping township. "It's hideous. No one will be willing to buy it, and it scares the family to even look at it!" Feng told Oriental Today. He says the piglet looks just like a monkey, with two thin lips, a small nose and two big eyes. Its rear legs are also much longer than its forelegs, causing it to jump instead of walk. Feng's wife said the monkey-faced piglet was one of five newborns of a sow which the family had raised for nine years. "My God, it was so scary. I didn't know what it was. I was really frightened," she said. "But our son likes to play with it, and he stopped us from getting rid of it. He even feeds it milk." Neighbours have suggested the couple keep the piglet to see how it looks as it matures.

A three-legged, one-eyed, hairless dog has hobbled away with the title of world's ugliest dog. Gus, a pedigree Chinese crested dog, claimed victory in the annual contest in northern California. Gus and his owner Jeanenne Teed travelled across the country from Florida to compete in the competition. "I think right now he's ready for a nap," she said after his star turn. She added that she would spend the £500 prize money on treatment for Gus's skin cancer. Ms Teed entered her pet in the contest to raise awareness and hope for people whose pets have cancer. Among a host of aesthetically-challenged pooches, the Chinese crested breed is often the stand-out in the competition. Last year's winner, Elwood, was a Chinese crested and Chihuahua mix.

A teenage girl is causing uproar in China by posting scantily-clad pictures of herself to raise money for the earthquake appeal. The 19-year-old, who calls herself Xiao Yun, said it was her way of doing her bit for the victims, reports the Information Times. She lives in Beijing but is originally from Sichuan province where the earthquake hit and wanted to encourage more people to donate. "It's encouraging to see people donating to help - I will release more photographs of myself to encourage more people to donate," she wrote online. "I am still a student, so I am doing my part in my way. I just want to give something back to my hometown." Her forum thread has had more than a million hits in just a few days as she keeps posting more pictures with more than 100 now online. Some people are supporting her unusual way of fund-raising - but others accuse her of attention-seeking. One blogger posted: "It's a pity that these post-1990 girls are so shameless. Is this all they know how to do? What happened to their dignity?" Responding to messages sent to her through the forum, Xiao Yun wrote that she "felt terrible" and was "nearly in tears" after reading some of the more hurtful ones. "I don't regret posting the pictures - I only regret they have been seen by people who cannot appreciate them," she wrote.

A fast food restaurant has launched the world's most expensive burger - a £95 gourmet special. Burger King's new sandwich, named simply The Burger, makes Guinness World Record history by beating the American Double Truffle Burger which cost £65 in 1994. It features the world's most succulent Japanese Wagyu beef with white truffles, onion tempura prepared in Cristal champagne and Italy's finest Pata Negra prosciutto. The burger will be served at the chain's Gloucester Road branch in West London or can be pre-ordered by phone. Proceeds go to charity Help A London Child. Burger King chiefs say it is aimed at people seeking "the ultimate burger taste experience". But restaurant critics dismissed the burger as the latest stunt in a marketing craze which has seen Selfridges charge £85 for a sandwich and a Sloane Square department store ask £50 for a cup of coffee pre-digested by a Civet cat.
