Visitors to Gatwick Airport are being greeted by a naked pole dancer - but not everyone is happy about it. The giant silhouette of a naked pole dancer painted on a field beneath the airport's flight path could land the marketing company behind it with thousands of pounds worth of fines, reports the Daily Mail. The 100,000 sq ft ad for a risque website, designed by London-based marketing agency Sports Media Gaming (SMG), was painted on a field in Surrey last week. Although nearly invisible from the ground, the advert can clearly be seen by thousands of airline passengers flying out of Gatwick each day, which Tandridge Council says is illegal. A spokeswoman for the council said it was painted on the field without proper planning permission and legal action would be taken if it is not removed. SMG is refusing to get rid of it, claiming it can be seen only from the air and so is not subject to council planning regulations. If found guilty the firm faces a fine of up to £2,500 plus an extra £250 for each day the advert remains in place. Steven Johnson, commercial director of Flightpath Media, a subsidiary of SMG, said: "We are operating quite within our rights. We produce adverts that are only visible by people in the air. If the council own the rights to the airspace then we would be happy to hear from them." Mr Johnson said SMG was intending to produce similar paintings over the next few days on fields beneath flight paths out of Manchester, Leeds and Stansted airports. But Paul Miner, of the Campaign to Protect Rural England, said: "It sets such a nasty precedent, using our landscapes just for advertisement."

A judge has granted a new trial to Julie Amero, a former substitute teacher in Norwich, Connecticut who was convicted in January on four felony counts of risking injury to minors after she was unable to prevent pornographic pop-ups from showing up on a computer in a classroom in 2004.

The city's prosecutors did not oppose the motion for a new trial, raising the possibility that Amero will not be tried again. The opportunity for a new day in court marks a reversal in fortune for Amero who faced sentencing this week that could have landed her in jail for forty years. Amero was convicted of endangering children after several students saw pornographic thumbnails on a computer screen.

A dog has become a local celebrity in a Chinese village after she reportedly gave birth to a kitten. Hua Chengpeng, of Huayang village, Jiangyan city, told People's Daily that the unlikely animal was the third 'puppy' in his pet's litter. "The first two puppies the dog produced were both normal, but when the third baby came, the whole family was very surprised to see a cat-like creature. It is a cat, not a dog at all," he said. Local residents have been flocking to his house to see the 'kitten' which local vets say is really a puppy which looks like a cat because of a gene mutation. It apparently yaps like a puppy. Hua says his son brought the dog home from Liaoning city, where he had been working, a year ago.

Penthouse, Australia's biggest-selling adult magazine, may be forced to submit all its future editions for approval by censors after a ruling that it has "emphasised genitals" in its latest issue. The troublesome pictures include "a depiction of two breast naked females standing with their breasts pressed against one another" and an indiscreet depiction of genitals, according to documents obtained by NEWS.com.au.

Penthouse has said the pictures that were deemed too obscene by the Office of Film and Literature Classification are identical to previously published images. The magazine's editor Ian Gerrard has said he was puzzled by the attention from OFLC scrutineers. "Images in previous issues were nearly identical, but this is the first time it's happened to us," Mr Gerrard has said. Mr Gerrard has said the restrictions on what can appear in the "weaker" newsstand editions of Australian Penthouse are decided by the magazine and the regulator.

A disabled man was taken for a 50mph ride along a US highway after his wheelchair got jammed in the grille of a lorry. The truck driver drove off, completely unaware that he had a new passenger. Other motorists raised the alarm and used their mobile phones to call police. An amusement park in China has built what it claims is the world's largest penis. The 30ft erection, named Sky Pillar, has been built at Longwan Shaman Amusement Park in Changchun city. The logo for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics has been unveiled in a star-studded ceremony in London. The jagged emblem, based on the date 2012, comes in a series of shades of pink, blue, green and orange and will evolve in the run-up to the Games.
